ECE-Main Projects

The final year B.Tech ECE students of Mangalam College of Engineering have designed projects as part of curriculum of M.G University. The four of the projects got selected at various technical events conducted at different Engineering Colleges in Kerala.

1: SPY TANK ROBOT

It is a wireless keyboard controlled tank robot capable of 360 degree locomotion. It has two PCB sections: PC section and tank section. The former one is associated with the computer and the later one is associated with the tank. The PC section is with user and the tank section is in an external war field. Two PIC18F4550 microcontrollers are the heart of the project with each on two sections. Zigbee protocol is used for communication between the two sections. The tank section has a video camera, laser pointer, signal jamming section and some sensors like human detection sensor etc. The video camera and laser pointer are capable of rotation in 360 degree. The motions of camera and laser pointer are controlled by commands given from the remote PC. The sensor outputs are transmitted from the tank section to the PC section through Zigbee. The outputs of the sensors are displayed in the LCD associated with PC section. Video camera is capable of capturing visuals from the war field and it can be transmitted to the PC section. It also has self destruction system.

The above Project batch have secured second position in Project Presentation in Reboot 10, the technical fest held at Amal Jyothi College of Engineering, Kanjirapally organized by Magnificata Hybrid Gadgets and ISSEC, London on 6th of April 2013.

2: INTELLIGENT AERODROME CART

It is a passenger friendly trolley which doesn't have any physical contact with the passenger. So, the main advantage is that the passenger doesn't want to carry the trolley, it will automatically follow the person.PIC Microcontroller is the brain of this project. There are two sensors, Ultrasonic sensor and an object obstacle sensor. In addition to that it also has a load cell and a metal detector. It consists of a motor controller for driving the trolley, LCD interface for display. The principle is that an ultrasonic sensor is connected to ADC channel of the PIC, which will give a value. There is a specific value for a minimum distance between the customer and the trolley, the variation of which controls the movement of the trolley. Each trolley will be tagged to its transmitter set by a unique identification number, so that there will be no problem of interference from the other people. The trolley can perform the following operations: Automatically follows the passenger, carrying its ultrasonic transmitter. Manages itself in a crowded environment and follow the correct person. Calculate the weight of the bags placed on the trolley. Display the weight, scanned details and counter number on LCD screen. Send the above information to the correct counter at which the passenger has to submit his documents.

3: TOUCH CONTROLLED RESCUE ROBOT

Nowadays, building crashes are happening so frequently due to terrorism and natural disasters like earthquakes. When such a disaster occurs, there is a probability for human to get stuck in it. It's very tedious and dangerous for a person to enter into the affected area and monitor it. The system consists of two sections, i.e. a controlling section and a vehicle part. The control section consists of PC interface to monitor and display the conditions in the particular area. The videos from the vehicle can be seen on the system placed in the control section. The communications between two sections is done using Zigbee protocol. The vehicle part is a hand map robot, which is a simple concept that makes use of low cost touch screen. When we move our hands through the touch screen on the map displayed on it, the robot follows the same path. Similarly, different directions of motion can be implemented according to our need. The robot can reach positions that a man cannot reach. It also consists of temperature sensor to measure the temperature on that location, smoke sensors to detect the fire and PIR sensor to detect the presence of human. It consists of a wireless video camera, which will take videos and send it to the remote system.

4: SMART HOME WITH INTELLIGENT INTRUDER DETECTION

Smart home technology has proved to contribute to increased impedance and safety. Smart home technology is a collective term for information and communication technology in homes, where the components are communicating through a local network. The technology may be used for monitoring alarming and executing actions according to the programmed criteria. This project includes a high level security system which informs the authorized person and to the police station by a dedicated software using internet. The heart of the project is a web server running on ARM Cortex M4 microcontroller. There are various sensors, devices connected to this device for security system, control and monitoring. Dedicated softwares are there for user( .Net and Android) and police station (.Net). The user software can control the devices in home , view various sensor readings, status of security system, configuration changes etc. The application used in the police station use maps of local area to provide the intruder alert. The software used in police station will be communicating with this home server. If an intruder is detected, it will be shown in the software as a location in the map and a notification message which makes their duty easily. At the same time, the house owner will be informed by the user software. The software communicates to the smart home device using UDP protocol.
